First Grade is a big year for learning! Your child will grow, discover, and learn so many new things this year!
Your child will be a READER! We read every day in the classroom - by ourselves, in groups, as a class, using technology and even in other subject areas! Practicing reading helps build and strengthen our foundation as readers!
Your child will be an AUTHOR! We make so many books in First Grade! We also study authors by reading their books and using their styles as mentor-texts to generate and publish our own fiction and nonfiction books.
Your child will be a hard-working MATHEMATICIAN! This year, your child will learn about place value into the hundreds breaking down and building numbers using groups of ones, tens, and hundreds. We will also work on fractions, telling time, counting money, and problem solving with addition, subtraction, repeated addition, and missing numbers.
To help your child be successful this year:
